I can’t believe how fast this summer flew by!!! It has been the most stressful yet most exciting summer of my life. Initially, I planned on using my free days to work on my blog because I truly enjoy writing but things got a little uhm, bumpy (for lack of a better word) and I ended up staying away from social media (only posted a couple of posts here and there that were mostly prescheduled).
For those of you who don’t know, I’m in a long distance relationship (have been for over three years) and my fiancé lives in Egypt so I get to see him twice a year (summer and three weeks in December). Let me just start by saying that long distance is so freaking hard and this summer our relationship was put through the ultimate test. Not only was I going to be with him for a mere two months, but also those two months turned out to be one month. In Egypt, a year of military service is mandatory for some people and, lucky me, my fiancé was one of them. His service started in July (45 days of basically no communication) and we said our very early goodbye July 2nd. I did get to see him for 24 hours before I left to the airport though which I’m so thankful for. So, with such limited time I wanted to spend every waking minute with him and decided that social media wouldn’t be a priority (temporarily). Did I mention that we also had to renovate our house and start planning our wedding during this month?? Of course we didn’t get to finish everything (or even half of it) in June so I ended up continuing most of the renovations in July on my own (sorry baby for making our bedroom mostly pink).
My summer away from social media was truly eye-opening. I had no idea how much time I wasted just scrolling aimlessly through Instagram. Not to mention my slight obsession with researching social media and marketing strategies that keeps me glued to my laptop for hours (hey, I’m a communication major don’t blame me). Even though I wish I had more time with my loved ones this summer, I’m so incredibly grateful for the time I did have because it was amazing and now I feel so inspired to get back to blogging.
